Gay Rugby Takes Over Nashville

Gay Rugby Takes Over Nashville

Rugby is one of the most masculine and primal contact sports out there.  It’s not common that gay and rugby are mentioned together.  But throughout Memorial Day weekend, the world of gay rugby takes over Nashville.  Last held in Sydney, the Bingham Cup returns to the US this weekend.  It continues to defy stereotypes by providing an all-inclusive spirit to the world of rugby and sports as a whole.  The Nashville Grizzlies are the host team.

The event, which has been hosted in San Francisco, London, New York, Dublin, Minneapolis, Manchester and Sydney, brings over 1500 international athletes  to the center of Tennessee’s capital city.

The men of rugby tend to be built thick like we like them.  Have a look.

The Bingham Cup as it is known, is named in honor of Mark Bingham.  Bingham was influential in establishing two premier gay rugby clubs – the San Francisco Fog and the Gotham Knights.  He died aboard United Flight 93 on September 11 and is hailed as one of the passengers who overtook the hijackers.
